City Walk | Greenwich Village Tour

Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

Tour | The High Line Sunset Tour

The area around the HighLine Park was a vital business district of New York City, supplying fresh fruits, French Cheeses and Russian caviar as well as fresh meats to City markets. The hustle and bustle of the streets induced the City to elevate the railroad trains delivering goods to the commercial buildings. When interstate truck traffic made the railway outdated, it fell into ruin, only to be regenerated as a park.

Video | Oscar Muñoz’s 2003 Video Re/trato Projected on the Side of a Building

Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz’s 2003 video Re/trato will be projected on a building to the east visible from the park’s Seating Steps, as well as the sidewalk. One of Colombia’s most influential artists, Oscar Muñoz has created an impressive body of work that investigates memory and history, and the ways both intertwine with our contemporary society. Here, Muñoz presents a video in which you see the artist painting a self-portrait on a concrete sidewalk by using a brush and water. The hand continuously paints as the portrait evaporates, creating an endless drawing. Reflecting on the ephemeral nature of identity, the work highlights the liminal space between remembering and forgetting, between an image and its obliteration.

Lecture | Clash of Civilizations at Home and Abroad: Still?

With Alia Malek, a Syrian-American journalist and author of "A Country Called Amreeka: U.S. History Retold Through Arab-American Lives" and editor of "Patriot Acts: Narratives of Post-9/11 Injustice." Since 9/11, talk of a clash of civilizations between “the West” and “the Arab/Muslim East” has remained popular and much not only have Arabs and Muslims across the ocean come under scrutiny, but so have those who call the US home. What has this clash meant for civil rights and liberties here in the US? For how we see our shared country and its citizens? For our foreign policy? And what has or will change now in the wake of the “Arab Spring,” the US presidential elections, and now that it has been more than a decade since 9/11?

Workshop | Intro Class: Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help

With Alexis Brink. Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient Japanese practice that balances the body’s energy by using the fingers and hands to eliminate stress, create emotional equilibrium, relieve pain and alleviate acute or chronic conditions. It utilizes 26 “Safety Energy Locks” which are vortexes of energy on the body, that may get blocked. When 1 or more of these SEL’s get blocked the energy flow in the body will get disrupted and disharmony or disease may occur. In this course we will learn how to unblock these SEL’s by using specific energy flow patterns which allow the energy to flow undisrupted again. We will learn and practice how to harmonize the 5 emotional attitudes, learn and experience the Main Central Flow which harmonizes the whole body and we will learn several organ flows. We will also talk about specific and individual “projects” including how to release stress; enhance memory; fight fatigue; ease back pain, headaches, menstrual cramps; boost the immune system and relieve allergies, flu's and colds; stabilize blood pressure and general well-being.

Performance | Comedy: The Vigilante

Most bands write out a set list before a performance. They can direct the ebb and flow of emotions by carefully placing songs in a particular order. The Vigilante approaches a concert with a figurative blank canvass. Their concerts are entirely improvised and evolve organically. The audience decides the emotional swings, the peaks and troughs. They feel our set list. Their show is entirely collaborative. The lead singer, and an occasional band member, will talk to the audience to garner words, phrases, interactions, stories, and even musical requests from the audience to create an entire set list of completely original songs. Their music evolves in real time. And they do covers!
