Over the George Washington Bridge, into the woods on top of the Palisades. Walk down 400 stone steps to the Hudson shore and then north 6-8 miles. Performance | Jewish Books Cooking with 5-Time Tony Nominee Elizabeth Swados


In an original work of imagination unleashed by the magic of children’s books, five-time Tony Award nominee Elizabeth Swados presents Jewish Books Cooking in premiere performances. Based on 13 Jewish-themed children’s books selected by Ms. Swados herself – including Afikomen Mambo, The Klezmer Bunch, and Baxter, the Pig Who Wanted to be Kosher - the production peppers theatrical interpretations of each story with newly composed music and arrangements. Applying a Jewish storytelling twist to her renowned Books Cook! – earning rave reviews during its Atlantic Theater Company run in 2010 – Ms. Swados aims the new production to young children and families who treasure the power of the book to link generations and free minds, young and old, to wander and imagine. A free, multicultural family-oriented festival, Drums Along the Hudson includes exhibitions of world dance and drumming traditions as well as Native American crafts and international foods. Tour the Hispanic Society museum, Trinity Church Cemetery, and Morris Jumel Mansion. After touring the museum, walk across the street and tour Trinity Church cemetery, final resting place of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Clement Clarke Moore, among others, with great views of the Hudson River and GWB. Next walk east on 155th Street to Edgecombe Avenue and then north along High Bridge Park and the Harlem River to the Morris Jumel Mansion, the oldest house in Manhattan and George Washington's headquarters during the American Revolution. Total walking distance is about one mile; most of the walk will be touring the three sites.

Concert | Concert for the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla


Featuring Diana Rosano accompanied by Humberto Flores. Diana Rosano’s academic musical studies were undertaken at Conservatorio de las Rosas in Morelia, Michoacan and Escuela Superior de Música in Mexico City. She worked as part of the Bellas Artes chorus for 7 years and has performed in multidisciplinary recitals, concerts and shows in different states in Mexico, New York and London. Humberto Flores is the winner of the 2008 Euro Latin Award. He is considered one of the most accomplished Mexican musicians of his generation due to his extensive musical exposure and training both in Mexico and abroad. Also featuring: Mexican roots outfit Jarana Beat fuses elements of Mexico’s African and Amerindian traditions with salsa, cumbia, and other contemporary music in its present-day take on folkloric music. They will share with us huapangos from the huasteca region of Puebla, Mexico. A reception with art by Poblano artists and food will close the event.
