Opera | Vera: Excerpts from a New Opera


A staged reading of scenes from Vera, the new opera by composed by Matthew Barnson with libretto by Mark Sonnenblick. Vera tells the story of Caroline and Gregory who are traveling with their daughter Vera to a colony on a distant planet. The computer onboard their spacecraft synthesizes food, simulates entertainment, and attends to all their needs. When they are forced to reboot the computer, Vera goes missing. While the computer repairs itself, Caroline panics and Gregory explains that Vera was just another simulation--a child they invented to keep them company. But is he telling the truth? The performance will feature a post-show discussion with the artists.

Concert | Faculty Recital: Peter Andreacchi, Keyboardist


Dr. Peter Andreacchi, who teaches theory and keyboard skills, received his doctorate from CUNY in 1986 and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Manhattan School of Music in 1981 and 1970, respectively. He is a composer, pianist, and writer with a lifelong interest in the relation of music to spiritual traditions and practices. His numerous concerts have featured a range of styles, from ritualistic vocals to electronic soundscapes to microtonal improvisation. His most recent project, a “labyrinthine Web site,” reflects a renewed fascination with German Romanticism; it can be viewed at www.ofterdingen.com. Andreacchi is the proud father of Greg, Bart, and Steve, all graduates of Drew University.
