Concert | counter)induction Ensemble performs works by Schoenberg

Program: Helmut Lachenmann: Dal Niente Luigi Nono: Fragmente-Stille, an Diotima Arnold Schoenberg: Ode to Napoleon According to the German poet Heinrich Heine, "Where words leave off, music begins." counter)induction presents works in this concert that trace this fragile boundary. Starting from the most direct confrontation of speech and music in Schoenberg's Ode to Napoleon, passing through the awesome, choked Sprachahntlichkeit of the Lachenmann, culminating in a rare performance of Nono's late, monumental string quartet, where Holderlin's words are read in silence. Schoenberg's supercharged miniatures complete the transition from speech to pure sigh. Featuring renowned flutist and vocal artist Paula Robison.
