Film | Good Night, and Good Luck (2005) Directed by and Starring George Clooney

In the early 1950s, the threat of Communism created an air of paranoia in the United States, and exploiting those fears was Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin. However, CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow and his producer Fred W. Friendly decided to take a stand and challenge McCarthy and expose him for the fear monger he was. However, their actions took a great personal toll on both men, but they stood by their convictions and helped to bring down one of the most controversial senators in American history. Director: George Clooney Cast: David Strathairn, Patricia Clarkson, George Clooney, Jeff Daniels, Robert Downey Jr., Frank Langella, Tate Donovan, Ray Wise George Clooney is an American actor and filmmaker. Russell's Three Kings, and the Coen brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000). Greater stardom came from his starring role in Soderbergh's Ocean's film series from 2001 to 2007.

Symposium | Museums as Systems: Resources (online)

The two-day, annual Museums as Systems symposium gathers together arts workers to discuss alternative approaches to museum structures. The 2023 convening asks the question: what “resources" are necessary to reimagine the systems of museums?  This symposium explores “resources” through four key themes: love and care, creative fundraising, reclamation, and radical hospitality. Over four sessions, “Museums as Systems: Resources” seeks to explore these concepts with the following questions: What do we have? What do we need? How do we get it? What are we willing to risk? to give up? What are the barriers to broadening access and how can we overcome them? What are alternative solutions to acquiring the resources we need?

Book Discussion | Remembering a Dance: Parts of Some Sextets, 1965-2019

The official launch of a new publication exploring Yvonne Rainer’s reimagining of her iconic 1965 performance, Parts of Some Sextets (PoSS), for the 2019 Performa Biennial in New York.    In collaboration with Emily Coates, Parts of Some Sextets simultaneously remade history and formed an entirely new work. This new publication explores every aspect of Rainer’s reconstruction, addressing how we write and rewrite history through our actions and words, elucidating on how artistic choices of what to include and what to omit—consciously and unconsciously—contribute to the larger social narrative of what we remember and what we forget.

Book Discussion | Sky-High: A Critique of NYC's Supertall Towers from Top to Bottom (online)

Part architectural guidebook and part critique, Sky-High documents the pencil-thin, supertall towers that are transforming New York City's skyline and streets. The new book by Eric P. Nash captures the city's penchant for building skyward, from the Woolworth and Chrysler buildings of an early 20th-century race to the top to today's super luxury aeries of Billionaires' Row and the World Trade complex in Lower Manhattan. They feature a new crop of "supertall" towers (commonly measured as at least 984 feet above the sidewalk), including One World Trade Center, Three World Trade Center, 30 Hudson Yards, 35 Hudson Yards, One57, 432 Park Avenue, 53West53, Central Park Tower, and One Vanderbilt.

Book Discussion | The Sullivanians: Sex, Psychotherapy, and the Wild Life of an American Commune

Alexander Stille launches his book about the devolution of the Sullivan Institute, from psychoanalytic organization to insular, radical cult. In the middle of the Ozzie and Harriet 1950s, the birth control pill was introduced and a maverick psychoanalytic institute, the Sullivan Institute for Research in Psychoanalysis, opened its doors in New York City. Its founders, Saul Newton and Jane Pearce, wanted to start a revolution, one grounded in ideals of creative expression, sexual liberation, and freedom from the expectations of society, and the revolution, they felt, needed to begin at home. Dismantling the nuclear family—and monogamous marriage—would free people from the repressive forces of their parents. In its first two decades, the movement attracted many brilliant, creative people as patients: the painter Jackson Pollock and a swarm of other abstract expressionist artists, the famed art critic Clement Greenberg, the singer Judy Collins, and the dancer Lucinda Childs. In the 1960s, the group evolved into an urban commune of three or four hundred people, with patients living with other patients, leading creative, polyamorous lives.

Jazz | Austrian Jazz Guitarist's Acoustic Sound

A concert evening with Austrian jazz guitarist Harri Stojka, who will be joined by Herbert Berger on the saxophone, Peter Strutzenberger on the bass and Sigi Meier on the brush snare. Harri Stojka will present his current focus in the formation Acoustic Drive. In this formation, Harri Stojka's style meets Django Reinhardt and his musical universe. As a principle for this, the guitarist outlines the approach as "modern jazz soloism" with "Acoustic Gypsy Sound". What these words characterize succinctly, transcends in concert the limitations of a pure tribute, Stojka and his partners go into the fullness of their instrumental expression, let their musicality speak not only through the material of Reinhardt, but move just as dynamically with the original compositions of Harri Stojka, the "drive" in the band name may be taken literally and quickly captivates the audience.
