Discussion | Living Room Conversations on Dance

This evening of conversations with a diverse group of artists, choreographers, writers, and thinkers is organized to avoid the usual dreaded post-performance discussion, and to side-step the hackneyed question: "What is your work about?" Instead we offer actual conversation on topics of interest to Susan and her guests. There will be time slots allotted to particular topics, though the structure of the conversation will be loose. Topics include, but are not limited to, "emotion and space," "writing about dance," "describing the indescribable," and "the need for meaning." Guests include 2010 Whitney Biennial artist Dawn Clements, architects from the international design/architectural team Snøhetta Craig Dykers and Elaine Molinar, choreographer Ursula Eagly, cross-disciplinary artist Ralph Lemon, cinematographer Babette Mangolte, choreographer Tere O'Connor, choreographer Melinda Ring, and internationally acclaimed visual artist Pat Steir.

Author Reading | Greg Lindsay discusses his book Aerotropolis: The Way We’ll Live Next

The author presents an eye-opening look at the new phenomenon called the aerotropolis - a combination of giant airport, planned city, shipping facility, and business hub - and gives us a glimpse at the way we will live in the near future and the way we will do business. Learn about the aerotropolis- the intersection of air travel and urban planning and explore how air travel and transportation are largely responsible for the shape and scope – and winners and losers – of globalization. He examines how cities such as Hong Kong, Dallas, Detroit and Dubai are changing (or being built anew) to reflect the interests of corporations that effectively scattered pieces of themselves across the world, relying on the Internet and Airbus planes to tie themselves together.
