The title of the show references a line from Macbeth by William Shakespeare, which contemplates the banality and insignificance of life. Yana Dimitrova is a graduate of the School of Fine Arts "Acd. Iliya Petrov" in Sofia, Bulgaria (2002). She received her BFA (2006) and MFA (2008) from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia (USA). Her most recent exhibits took place in Berlin, Budelsdorff (Germany), Bath, Manchester (UK), New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta (USA) and Sofia (Bulgaria). Opening Reception | Paintings: Don Kimes' Exquisite Interruption

Featuring a new series of abstract paintings, on view June 2nd through July 9th, 2011. Eight years ago, Kimes' home and studio succumbed to a flood, destroying a lifetime of work, and its documentation. Embracing the accident, the artist began to make paintings based on the ruined works. The result is complex and evocative - an homage to the power of nature and the passage of time - a metaphor for memory, perceived loss, and rebirth. Shown: "Todi Steel and Popolopen Memory," 2008, acrylic and ink painting on digital ghost on canvas, 55" x 76"

The bestselling author of Paddy Whacked, Havana Nocturne, and The Westies recounts a chilling tale of race, violence, and urban turmoil in 1960s New York City. On August 28, 1963—the very day on which Martin Luther King, Jr., stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and declared “I have a dream”—two young white women were assaulted and murdered in their apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The murders struck fear throughout the city—and marked the start of a ten-year saga of racial violence and unrest that ravaged the city

Performance | Almost Former Reality TV Stars

Once upon a time, Corinne Fisher and Thomas Whitfield were cast on a reality TV show (no, seriously, this happened). This was their big break and they were finally going to be famous! They were going to be partying with Ke$ha! They were going to be snorting huge balls of cocaine and tweeting to millions of followers! They were going to be able to shoplift -- legally! Unfortunately, forty-two days after signing their contracts, they were fired (this also happened). WOMP WOMP. It's ok. Don't feel sorry for them. They already feel ridiculously sorry for themselves. So sorry, in fact, that they created an entire show about the show...the show they were fired from. They were fired. Did you catch that? Oh, and they hired a drag queen to help tell the story. Is that ok with you, Sundance Channel? THEY DON'T CARE...YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF THEM (anymore)!

Discussion | The Legacy of Black Songwriters in Popular Music with WQXR's Terrance McKnight

Kick off Black Music Month! Since the inception of recorded music in the late-nineteenth century, African-Americans have significantly contributed to popular music in every genre in various roles—as composers, musicians, singers, disc jockeys and even record label owners. Frequently, due to the racial climate of the nineteeth and early- to mid-twentieth century, many black songwriters did not receive credit for their compositions, which resulted in the loss of future royalties, income and recognition. For this reason, many songwriters—Fats Waller, W.C. Handy, Bert Williams and Eubie Blake, to name a few—received little distinction, and many more are completely unknown. This conversation will explore the latent and often overlooked influence of black songwriters in popular music. Participants include: Terrance McKnight, host on Classical 105.9 FM WQXR (moderator) Eric Roberson, singer/songwriter, independent artist, two-time Grammy nominee (2010, 2011) David A. Jasen, author of Spreadin’ Rhythm Around: Black Popular Songwriters, 1880-1930, winner of the ASCAP award for Best Book on Popular Music (1999) Dyana Williams, veteran broadcaster, on-air personality at 107.9 WRNB-FM Radio One Philadelphia and founder of the non-profit advocacy organization International Association of African-American Music Foundation. She, along with Congressman Chaka Fattah of Philadelphia, helped to introduce and was successful in getting the African-American Music Bill passed in Congress, acknowledging June as Black Music Month
