Gallery Talk | Art & Life in Critical Zones: Curator's Walkthrough (online)

Curator Maria Lind presents her new exhibition on artists departing from from the split between nature and culture. Lind is the Counsellor of Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of Sweden in Moscow and formerly director of the Testa konsthall. Set in the Russian provincial capital of Izhevsk, Lind’s new exhibition homes in on artists whose practices break from the centuries-long idea that there is a split between nature and culture, signaling new ways to inhabit what French philosopher Bruno Latour calls "critical zones”—“the skin of the living earth” now at a moment of incredible fragility, calling out for extraordinary re-thinking of such things as land, landscape, territory, and homeland.

Museums | Tiffany Glass and Other Exhibitions

The collection of Tiffany's leaded glass includes an extraordinary array of floral and geometric lamps as well as landscape and figural windows. A unique feature of the collection is a vast, one-of-a-kind archive of original flat glass and pressed-glass "jewels" used by Tiffany Studios, which provides valuable insight into the development of the stained-glass movement in America at the turn of the twentieth century. Established in 1972, this art museum's permanent collection consists of around 10,000 items, over 6,000 of which are documents and objects related to the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs, some of which are on long-term display. Covid protocol applies.

Play | Larry and Lucy: Drama Reminiscent of Midnight Cowboy, Whitnail and I

Reminiscent in tone of classic films like "Midnight Cowboy" and "Whitnail & I," Larry & Lucy is about two emotionally wounded outsiders struggling to find a sense of place in the world. The play touches on the themes of loneliness, togetherness and the continuing opiate crisis in America. Larry is a worn-out, 63-year-old street muralist who now barely supports his meager, one room Hollywood existence by driving for Uber. Lucy is a fragile Kansas City teen runaway looking to beat a heroin addiction. After a few chance meetings the two embark on a series of misadventures that help them gain insight into their troubled lives, yet also reminds them of the difficulties they'll face when trying to overcome their deep rooted afflictions.
