Talk | Experts Discuss Global Fascism & Resistance through Art

In this conversation, the director and author, Milo Rau, and the author and cultural critic, Elisabeth Bronfen, will discuss the reasons for and impact of the recent revival of global fascism in Europe and the U.S.; the role of resistance with a particular focus placed on the arts, and on some recent stagings by Rau such as Elfriede Jelinek's "Endsieg / The Second Coming." About "Endsieg / The Second Coming:" This play about the United States shows how Donald Trump's followers see the "new old king" as a divinely chosen redeemer. But the king is not alone, there are shadows behind him, his political and economic cliques, fighting for his attention and with each other. And the resistance is collapsing: "I say there is nothing more, there is nothing else, the other no longer exists, there is nothing to see, there is only the one left," states the blind seer. So, what is left besides relentless exploration of our times?

Talk | Experts Discuss The Role of Archives in Design

Enjoy a moderated discussion with Ken Smith NA, landscape architect and newly elected National Academician, and Thaïsa Way, PhD, Director of Garden and Landscape Studies at Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection. Focusing on the changing role of archives in an age of digital abundance, Smith and Way discuss how the shaping of archives can ensure their ongoing role as both generative and commemorative tools. With the capacity to capture the designer, the location, and its communities, archives can act as a resource for future thinking and design. As Smith archives his practice in landscape architecture, the conversation will explore what archives reveal about individuals, projects, and the cultural moments in which they are made. The discussion invites a deeper consideration of archival work as a way to interpret legacy, challenge assumptions, and imagine new directions for design.

American installation artist and sculptor, Liz Larner, is to debut her newest collection, "Maybe Not". The collection comprises of floor-based and mounted sculptures alike. Larner challenges the definition of the word ceramics, which in Greek translates to "burnt earth", implying an irreversible moment where clay becomes fixed through the combustion of fire. Author Reading | Inside Scoop with Nonfiction Authors: The Influence of John Adams

A conversation with Dr. Lindsay M. Chervinsky, presidential historian, writer, and speaker. She is the Executive Director of the George Washington Presidential Library. Chervinsky will be speaking about her book: Making the Presidency: John Adams and the Precedents That Forged the Republic. An authoritative account of the second president of the United States that shows how John Adams's leadership and legacy defined the office for those who followed and ensured the survival of the American republic. Making the Presidency is an authoritative exploration of the second US presidency, a period critical to the survival of the American republic. One of the most qualified presidents in American history, he had been a legislator, political theorist, diplomat, minister, and vice president--but he had never held an executive position. Instead, the quixotic and stubborn Adams would rely on his ideas about executive power, the Constitution, politics, and the state of the world to navigate the hurdles of the position. He defended the presidency from his own often obstructionist cabinet, protected the nation from foreign attacks, and forged trust and dedication to election integrity and the peaceful transfer of power between parties, even though it cost him his political future. Offering a portrait of one of the most fascinating and influential periods in US history, Making the Presidency is a must-read for anyone interested in the evolution of the presidency and the creation of political norms and customs at the heart of the American republic.

Book Signing | Patrick Ryan Discusses & Signs Buckeye

Author of The Dream Life of Astronauts and Send Me, Patrick Ryan discusses and signs his new book, Buckeye, in conversation with bestselling author Ann Napolitano. Love and war, births and deaths, coming together and falling apart — this intimate portrait of small-town, midcentury America is a must-read. The writing is both straightforward and poetic, and the story is compelling, cathartic and expertly crafted. A purchase of Buckeye from this bookstore is required to join the signing line at this event. Please call ahead and speak to a bookseller and reserve your copy.

Staged Reading | Memory, Loss, and Resilience: ASCO (Disgust)

Step into a poetic memory play by Cuban playwright Yunior García. ASCO (Disgust) traces Nara’s journey through grief and guilt as she confronts family conflict, machismo, and generational silence. Told in nonlinear waves, the story captures resilience in the face of loss. Translated and directed by Arnaldo Galbán, this staged reading offers a rare chance to encounter García’s work in English.
