Workshop | Family Kayaking on the East River
Glide along the water this summer in an East River embayment with a kayaking session! All levels are welcome including first-time kayakers -- life vests and all equipment provided, as well as instruction. This program is specifically geared for kids and families, allowing younger paddlers to go solo in single kayaks! Kids aged 7 and older can paddle solo (as long as a guardian is present) thanks to additional on-water safety boaters from The Kayak Foundation who are specially trained to work with kids. This event provides the equipment, instruction, and oversight you need to experience a safe and fun afternoon of kayaking on the Hudson River. The program is beginner-friendly, and no prior experience is required. Participants must be at least 18 years old (or accompanied by a parent or guardian) and know how to swim. Come dressed to get wet! Lockers and locks will be provided to keep valuables dry, and on-site changing rooms will be available for use. To save time, you can also sign a waiver before arriving to save time, available at the link provided. Be sure to allow time for waiting in line when planning your visit. A special book club meeting celebrating Chuseok, or Korean Thanksgiving, with a discussion of Korean literature in English translation. The group will discuss Human Acts by Han Kang, exploring the novel’s historical and cultural context. Book synopsis: The novel draws upon the democratization uprising that occurred on 18 May 1980, in Gwangju, Korea. In the novel, one boy's death provides the impetus for a dimensional look into the Gwangju Uprising and the lives of the people in that city.

Gallery Talk | Scenes of Becoming: Multimedia Solo Exhibition Exploring Memory, Migration, Identity, & Beginning Again (Artist Talk)
A new exhibition bringing together seven mixed-media works and an original accompanying song, Now or Never, the exhibition considers the moments—both visible and unseen—that shape a life. Artist Huey-Min Chuang's work moves between memory and imagination, migration and belonging, absence and presence, asking what happens in the spaces between who we were, who we are, and who we are still becoming. The exhibition approaches the gallery as a kind of film set. Each artwork becomes a scene: a fragment of a larger story whose beginning may have already happened and whose ending has yet to be written. The works invite viewers to consider their own unwritten scenes—the places they have left, the people they have carried with them, the identities they have inherited or reinvented, and the possibilities that emerge when they choose to move forward.

Dance Performance | Maedeup: An Encounter with Korean Visual Heritage through Contemporary Dance (In Person AND Online!)
A live, non-verbal performance that reimagines Korean classical painting through contemporary performance. Named after the Korean word for “knot,” Maedeup evokes the weaving together of image, movement, sound, and memory. Inspired by the visual world of Shin Yun-bok (Hyewon), an 18th-century Korean painter renowned for his portrayals of women and everyday life, the work unfolds without spoken text. Foley performance, tableau vivant, live visuals, and live camera work transform his paintings into living, time-based events in which body, sound, and image converge in real time. The production offers an encounter with Korean visual heritage beyond language and cultural boundaries. The project brings Korean cultural heritage into contemporary performance and into dialogue with international audiences. Led by director and professor Kim JiYoung, the production brings together professional performers connected to SeoulArts in an interdisciplinary collaboration spanning theatre, visual art, sound, photography, and live media. Kim’s recent work explores new ways of connecting Korean tradition with contemporary expression.

An immersive video art projection on the bridge. In collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society and presented through the New York City Department of Transportation’s art program, internationally recognized multimedia artist Anita Glesta, will premiere AQUA COSMOS: The Hudson Canyon, an 18-minute immersive projection that will transform the bridge into a gateway to one of the world’s most extraordinary marine environments. Just 100 miles off the coast of New York City lies the Hudson Canyon, the largest submarine canyon along the Atlantic Coast. Comparable in scale to the Grand Canyon, it is home to an extraordinary diversity of marine life, including whales, sea turtles, sharks, tuna, cold-water corals, and species that support local fisheries.

Ukrainian Dreams, created by Tais Poda, brings to life the vivid and wildly imaginative works of Ukraine’s best-loved artist Maria Prymachenko in an audiovisual spectacle expressing the hope and pride of a nation.
