Open to all and led by experienced coxswains, these outings take place in stable, traditional Whitehall gigs, offering a hands-on introduction to rowing, teamwork, and river navigation. Sessions include orientation and group rowing excursions lasting 1-3 hours. Participants assist with launching and cleaning the boats. With the rise of consumer genetic testing, private individuals and academic studies have taken advantage of the lowered costs in order to research the recent and deeper human past. In the Jewish genealogy world, consumer DNA testing has proven to be a valuable tool. In this lecture, attendees will get a brief history and definitions for "Sephardic", discuss autosomal, Y, and mitochondrial DNA, and provide some case studies. Michael is a Heritage Professional specializing in historic preservation and multidisciplinary research into the Portuguese Jews and Ottoman Jewry.

Concert | Music in the Park: New-Age Taiwanese Showcase


This concert features multiple acts, including: the Bulareyaung Dance Company, pop singer ABAO, singer-songwriter Enno Cheng, and more. The Bulareyaung Dance Company is a troupe founded in 2015 in Taitung by Bulareyaung Pagarlava, an indigenous choreographer from Taiwan. The company trains dancers by working in the mountains, chanting by the waterside; Dancers delve into their indigenous heritage and culture to develop unique body movements and vocabulary. Also performing is ABAO, an indigenous Taiwainese pop singer of the Paiwan people; after debuting with the group Abao & Brandy, she began releasing solo albums in entirely in the Paiwan language, collaborating with her mother on the lyrics. They’re joined by Enno Cheng, a Taiwanese singer-songwriter, author, and actress who also plays in the band Chocolate Tiger. As a solo artist, she writes sparse, airy pop songs centered around the piano.
