A day of drop-in activities for library lovers of all ages as the venue marks 250 years since the founding of the United States. To mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the venue is proud to display a fair copy, in Thomas Jefferson's hand, of the Declaration of Independence. This celebration features music from a special guest DJ and will dive into the library's collections for crafts and activities celebrating this remarkable document and the many extraordinary items preserved by the library. Come on down and swing along to the best jazz music the Big Apple has to offer, with musician Daryl Sherman. “Taste, style, charm, singing, playing – as good as it gets!” - Michael Feinstein Daryl Sherman has been an integral part of the NYC jazz/cabaret scene since the mid-70s- and is one of the rare singing pianists equally talented in both roles. From early stints at Sinatra jazz hang-outs, Daryl also played most of the major NY hotels and became internationally acclaimed for a stellar 14-year run at the Waldorf-Astoria. She has performed and recorded with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Artie Shaw, and Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks.

Museums | After-Hours Activities & Games to Celebrate USA 250 at American History Museum
Celebrate America's 250th birthday at the oldest building in Manhattan! At midnight, Times Square will host the first ball drop outside of New Year’s Eve to commemorate the United States Semiquincentennial, and this museum will be livestreaming the event. This museum includes exhibitions focusing on America’s War for Independence and the preservation of early American history. Its 8,000-piece object collection consists of furnishings, communications, other documents, personal artifacts, and art. In addition to the livestream, the museum will be open after hours! From 8 PM to 12 AM, there will be games and activities celebrating America's 250th Birthday!

Play | Shakespeare's Hamlet: Landmark Tragedy in the Park
Though Hamlet claims that he is "mad in craft," there's inevitably going to be a little overlap. Three actors tackle Hamlet's desperate struggle to 'hold it all together' in this imaginative, visceral, and immediate production of Shakespeare's classic. Written by William Shakespeare. Directed by Nicholas Martin-Smith. Cushions will be provided to sit on the stairs of the monument. There is very limited room if you bring your own chair. Please arrive no later than 6:20pm. The play examines the fragile balance between loyalty and ambition as a group of senators conspires to prevent a feared tyranny, only to unleash unrest and instability. As alliances fracture and public tensions rise, Shakespeare's exploration of power, persuasion, and responsibility unfolds with striking contemporary relevance. Celebrate Fourth of July weekend at a performance by the intrepid chamber orchestra The Knights--a self-described "fellowship of adventurous musicians" with a fervent following at Carnegie Hall and across New York City. Led by Colin Jacobsen and Eric Jacobsen, they bring a program that fuses classical music with numerous American influences in true "Knightsian" fashion. Hear arrangements of Bonds's "Troubled Water," based on the spiritual "Wade in the Water"; selections from Coleridge-Taylor's 24 Negro Melodies, arranged by violinist Curtis Stewart; Stones River by violinist Jeremy Kittel, which draws from a multicultural well of American Revolutionary and Civil War music; Colin Jacobsen's arrangement of Paul Simon's "American Tune," and other short works; a piece by Jacobsen inspired by Dvorak and bluegrass; and more.
