Dance Performance | Preview Postmodern Dance Show that Explores Contradictions within Life

Optimistic Voices probes the intractable contradictions of family, eroticism, and motherhood. Influenced by Postmodern dance, musical theater, and Bob Fosse’s sexed-yet-sexless movement idiom, choreographer Juliana F. May continues to refine her signature song/text cycles, using repetition and off-kilter rhythms in hot pursuit of a new kind of performative language. The world premiere of Optimistic Voices will be in the fall of 2025. Choreographed, written, and directed by Juliana F. May. A Guggenheim and New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow, Juliana F. May has created nine works since 2002, including eight evening-length pieces with commissions and encore performances from Dance Theater Workshop, New York Live Arts, The Chocolate Factory Theater, Barnard College, The New School, Joyce SoHo, The American Realness Festival and Abrons Arts Center. May has been awarded grants and residencies through The Map Fund, The Jerome Foundation, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), Gibney Dance In Process and The Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography.

Explore Acquaintance, featuring dynamic abstractions by Linda Daniels, Marilyn Lerner, and Jill Levine. Curated by Jose Freire, this show reflects on connection and recognition through three distinct yet related artistic voices, reunited after decades of collaboration. Daniels' pulsating, circular forms blend formalism with pop and op art energy. Lerner's geometric compositions evoke digital codes and sci-fi motifs. Levine's painted sculptures and intimate "Tablets" series engage line, color, and shape in playful, puzzle-like arrangements.

Festival | Lincoln Center Fellowship Arts Showcase

These artistic works are capstone projects of the William R. Kenan, Jr. Fellowship cohort at Lincoln Center and represent the beginning steps for what may be longer journeys of artistic inquiry. The fellowship is designed to bridge the gap between conservatory training and a professional arts community in NYC. While at Lincoln Center, the Fellows have opportunities to develop and strengthen skills as arts educators while building relationships across our organization and the wider arts landscape.

Play | Shakespeare's Henry V in the Park

Henry V follows the young and newly crowned King Henry V of England as he seeks to prove himself a strong and legitimate ruler. The play begins with Henry’s claim to the French throne, based on ancestral ties, which the French reject. Insulted by the French Dauphin’s mocking gift of tennis balls, Henry launches a military campaign against France. The central action is the Battle of Agincourt, where Henry, despite being outnumbered and exhausted, delivers the famous “St. Crispin’s Day” speech to inspire his troops. The theater supplies 100 chairs nightly for the audience. Those chairs get snatched up fast though, especially at the end of the run or on beautiful summer days, so organizers advise that audience members wanting to use these folding chairs arrive 30 minutes before the start of the performance. You may bring your own chair or something soft to sit on. The theater almost never cancel due to rain, but if necessary, it will post updates on Facebook & Instagram.
