In this lavish musical, Broadway star Don Hewes' dancing partner goes solo, and Don declares that he can make a hit performer out of the next dancer he sees. This turns out to be the inexperienced Hannah, who bristles as Don tries to make her into his old partner. But as he realizes that he is falling in love with Hannah, Don knows that he must let her grow into her own kind of dancer if he wants her to reach her full potential. Director: Charles Walters Cast: Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, Peter Lawford, Ann Miller Judy Garland was an American actress and singer. She attained international stardom and critical acclaim as an actress in both musical and dramatic roles, as a recording artist, and on the concert stage. Garland was the first woman to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, which she won for her 1961 live recording titled Judy at Carnegie Hall. She is one of the few performers awarded a non-competitive EGOT having received two honorary Grammy Awards. Minnelli is also a Knight of the French Legion of Honour. Her persona and her style have immortalized her as a gay icon. Minnelli's parents were actress and singer Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli. From 1988 to 1990, she toured with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. in Frank, Liza & Sammy: The Ultimate Event. Minnelli is known for her renditions of American standards and is known for her signature songs which include ("New York, New York", "Cabaret", and "Maybe This Time"). Ingrid Bergman was a Swedish actress who starred in a variety of European and American films, television movies, and plays. Author Reading | Austrian Writer Martin Prinz Shares His New Novel, The Last Days


Enjoy a reading by Austrian writer Martin Prinz from his novel The Last Days, followed by a conversation with Bernadette Wegenstein, Professor of Media Studies and Director for Advanced Media Studies at Johns Hopkins University. Book Synopsis: Set in April 1945 near Vienna, The Last Days reconstructs a Nazi society in its final weeks, when the war was almost over but the killings continued. Drawing on trial records and contemporary documents, Prinz examines a series of executions carried out by Nazi summary courts against individuals accused of defeatism and desertion. Written in the restrained language of court transcripts, the book confronts questions of individual responsibility, arbitrary power, and the long silence that followed these crimes in Austria. In the final 41 days of the war, more people were murdered in Austria than in the previous seven years. Among the victims were the granddaughters of Olga Waissnix, the muse of Arthur Schnitzler. Two years later, the perpetrators appeared before a people’s court, defending their actions as lawful and invoking obedience to a state that had already ceased to exist. With sober precision, Prinz revisits these events and reflects on literature as a form of remembrance.

A reading by Adrian Matejka, followed by a reception/signing with books for sale. Adrian Matejka is the author of The Devil’s Garden, which won the New York / New England Award, and Mixology, a winner of the 2008 National Poetry Series. His third collection, The Big Smoke, was awarded the 2014 Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. The Big Smoke was also a finalist for the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, the National Book Award, and the Pulitzer Prize in poetry. Concert | Singer-Songwriter David Rivera Brings Caribbean Tropical Rhythms to the Stage


Hear a concert from David Rivera, a singer-songwriter, drummer, and leader of the band La Bambula. Rivera has developed a sound with universal appeal, centered on the fusion of Caribbean tropical rhythms with elements of modern music. In his own words: "I don't define my music within a single category; rather, it's a fusion that weaves together hip-hop beats, funk, R&B, and touches of electronic music with the echoes of 1970s salsa and the rich Caribbean and Puerto Rican tradition--perfect for jazz lovers, dancers, and even for the heart." Setting the stage is Discolocas, a club night established in March 2022 to provide a safe, supportive space where women selectors and DJs could feel comfortable sharing their vinyl selections. Expect to be moved by everything from vintage rumba, salsa, and cumbia to experimental sounds.

Join marine biologist Fernando Melendez Vazquez for an exploration of one of nature's most puzzling questions: out of more than 38,000 fish species, why are only about 42 "warm-blooded?" Discover how the largest evolutionary tree of fishes to date reveals an unexpected evolutionary "arms race" between tunas, billfishes, great white sharks, and marine mammals like whales. Learn how fossil evidence, evolutionary models, and genomic data from over 1,000 marine vertebrates are reshaping our understanding of endothermy.  For ages 21+ only.

Concert | Reinventing Tradition: Ensemble Works by Castello & Berio


This program, curated by The Juilliard School professor and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient Emi Ferguson, spotlights the works of two pioneering Italian composers, Dario Castello (1602-1631) and Luciano Berio (1925-2003). Before dying at 29 to the bubonic plague, Castello was integral to the revitalization of early Baroque music, transforming the Renaissance canzona into the sonata. Berio, beginning with the groundbreaking Sequenzas (1958 to 2002), reimagined the very foundations of performance, form, and sound for the 20th century. Heard together, these trailblazers offer proof of how "new" music continually reinvents tradition. This evening's Castello and Berio showcase will feature Ferguson on flute, Matthew Aucoin (AMOC* co-founder and MacArthur Fellow) on piano and percussion, and a formidable string trio of AMOC* core ensemble members that includes violinist/violist Miranda Cuckson, violinist Keir GoGwilt, and cellist Coleman Itzkoff. There are two ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track opening the Monday before the event at noon.
