Performance | The Ocean Etched in the Forest: Pulitzer Prize-Winner's Work Exploring Ancient Tradition & Modern Methodology (with Open Captioning)

A work from the composer and performer Du Yun. Born in China and currently based in New York City, Du Yun's insatiable curiosity finds new voice in The Ocean Etched in the Forest. Over the past several years, Du Yun and her collaborator Julian Crouch have worked closely with Jino artists from Yunnan province, including He Guiying, the national inheritor of his people's unique heritage. Living almost entirely isolated from urban society until 1979, the Jino people have maintained their distinct culture and ecologically grounded mindset amid rampant modernization. In collaboration with Du Yun and Crouch, Guiying has been recording Jino children from Bapiao Village as they perform nearly forgotten local folk songs. These recordings, merged with music from Du Yun's band OK MISS and live theatrical elements, form Ocean's original musical tapestry for a concert that transcends time and geography. Attendees encounter a work that highlights the intersections of ancient tradition and modern methodology, folk tales and contemporary storytelling, and generations living and gone. Relaxed performance.

Workshop | Embroidery with Social Commentary Workshop: Slow, Shared Practice

Artist Cinthya Santos-Briones invites you to participate in a collective embroidery workshop and stitching circle that explores contemporary narratives of migration in the United States. Participants will embroider phrases drawn from news reports, headlines, and press archives related to the current anti-immigrant political climate. Through the slow, shared practice of embroidery, the group will transform words designed for immediate media consumption into a space for dialogue, critical reflection, and collective witness. Inspired by Chilean arpilleras, Mexico’s Bordados por la Paz collectives, and other Latin American practices that have used textiles to denounce state violence and forced disappearances, the project approaches embroidery as a tool for memory, collective witness, and community repair. The workshop will be co-facilitated by María José Prudente, a Mixtec Indigenous embroiderer, language rights advocate, attorney, and interpreter in immigration courts. All materials will be provided, and no prior embroidery experience is required. The workshop will be bilingual (Spanish and English).

An inside look at the lives of orchestral musicians and insights into the evening's concert program. In this pre-concert talk, Erin Lunsford Norton (Associate Director, Classical Programming) and her guests explore the many ways composers and musicians inspire each other to move orchestral music forward. The three composers on the evening's program (Debussy, de Falla, and Poulenc) intersected with and inspired each others' music in profound ways. Together everyone will explore how these kinds of musical intersections and relationships in our modern world continue to fuel the development of orchestral music, and push it in exciting new directions. This event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing a selection from Francis Poulenc's Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano and Lili Boulanger's Cortege.

Participants experience the vibrant flavors and lively atmosphere of Korea's streets through this immersive Korean cooking workshop. Led by guest chef Kiki Kim, participants will be introduced to approximately five popular Korean street food dishes, with two featured recipes prepared through a hands-on cooking session. Throughout the workshop, Chef Kiki will also share the history, cultural significance, and cooking techniques behind each dish, while introducing a variety of Korean ingredients and K-Food products that can easily be incorporated into everyday home cooking. Whether you are new to Korean cuisine or already a fan of K-Food, this workshop offers a fun and engaging opportunity to cook, taste, and experience the vibrant spirit of Korea--bringing the flavors of Seoul's streets right to your own table. From bustling traditional markets and nostalgic bunsik (Korean snack culture) to the iconic pojangmacha (street food stalls), Korean street food is more than a quick bite--it's a reflection of Korea's everyday life, community, and culinary creativity. This workshop invites participants to discover the stories, traditions, and ingredients behind some of Korea's most beloved street foods while exploring the culture that has helped make K-Food a global phenomenon. Participants will be selected through a randomized lottery process.
