Tour | Greenwich Village Neighborhood Tour

Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all. This tour takes place Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10am and Mondays and Fridays at 2pm.

Concert | Concert: The Trishas / Heritage Blues Orchestra

When Jamie Wilson, Liz Foster, Kelley Mickwee, and Savannah Welch of The Trishas first shared a stage in January 2009, their intention was simply to perform a couple of songs as part of a tribute to Savannah’s father, singer-songwriter Kevin Welch. But when magic happens, sometimes you have to give in to its power. The sound of their voices soaring in close four-part harmony so transfixed listeners that night in Steamboat, Colorado, that show offers began to come in, luring them into testing the waters as a group. The grit of low-down country and urban blues to the bold brass of New Orleans; the hand-clapping, hustle and bustle of gospel to fiery postmodern, jazz-infused horn arrangements; the haunting cries of work songs to pulsating drums that reach back to the roots of it all—if you are lucky enough to hear the Heritage Blues Orchestra, you’ll experience this and more.

Concert | Collectio Musicorum: Music of Medieval Spain

The concert will feature music from across the Iberian Peninsula, dating from the 11th through the 14th centuries. On the program are selections from several important manuscripts--the Llibre Vermell, the Las Huelgas Codex, and the Cantigas de Santa Maria. Also included will be music by King Denis of Portugal and the Cantigas d'Amigo of Martim Codax, a cycle of songs about love and the sea. It will also be a rare opportunity to hear Mozarabic chant performed live. Performers include singers Patrick Fennig, Martin Coyle, and Richard Lippold, accompanied by artistic director Jeff Dailey. Collectio Musicorum (“Collection of Music”) is an ensemble devoted to giving the best possible performances of music from the earliest of times. While realizing it is not possible to replicate medieval performances with complete accuracy, the ensemble strives to achieve a reasonable reproduction of the sounds and performance practice of the Middle Ages by examining all available evidence — codicological, organological, linguistic, iconographic, etc. This musicological approach is combined with the highest possible level of musicianship to present historically informed concerts that are both scholarly and entertaining. Collectio also strives to resurrect music that, although written about, is rarely, if ever, performed.

Concert | Narcissus and Song with Eleanor Friedberger

“One of the most vital and enduring artists of the last ten years.” — The Village Voice Eleanor Friedberger has been behind some of the most thrillingly imaginative pop music of the last decade. Perhaps best known as one half of acclaimed art-rock duo the Fiery Furnaces, she brings the same hyper-literate lyrics, distinctive delivery, and idiosyncratic sensibility as a solo artist, all couched in a uniquely relaxed, melodic style. The results are vivid narratives wrapped up in the retro cool of 70s-style pop classicism.
