You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. This is a 3-hour tour that begins with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, an icon of New York City for over 125 years, with spectacular views of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The tour then moves on to a stroll of Brooklyn Heights, America’s and New York City’s first suburb. The tour then explores the neighborhood DUMBO before ending at the Fulton Ferry landing. This tour takes place every day at 10am.

Lecture | Anti-Imperial Metropolis: Interwar Paris and the Seeds of Third World Nationalism


Michael Goebel, professor of history at the Freie Universität, Berlin, raises anew the question of why imperial centers became hatcheries of postcolonial and anti-imperialist elites in the later “Third World.” Examining the everyday lives of Africans, Asians, and Europeans in interwar Paris, his answers establish the importance of the social history of migration in the global spread of nationalism. Michael Goebel has previously held fellowships at the European University Institute and Harvard University. His main research interests are Latin American history and French colonial history. He is the author of Argentina’s Partisan Past: Nationalism and the Politics of History and Anti-Imperial Metropolis: Interwar Paris and the Seeds of Third World Nationalism.

Book Discussion | Book Launch: The Color of Smoke by Menyhért Lakatos


New Europe Books, the Consulate General of Hungary and Balassi Institute present the book launch of The Color of Smoke, the gripping tale of one boy’s journey to manhood. The book, released for the first time in English, is clearly a forgotten classic by Menyhért Lakatos, a writer who came of age during World War II and presented an epic vision of his people, the Roma.
