Park Walk | Nature Walk

Learn about the Park’s wildlife by joining experienced naturalists on guided nature walks along the Park’s esplanade. Enjoy a meandering waterfront walk while viewing and learning about the park’s flora and fauna, including some of the 85 different species of birds identified within Park boundaries. Peek into some of our many gardens to discover butterflies, dragonflies and other interesting insects. Get to know the native plants that thrive in unexpected places in and around the river’s edge. Each nature walk is unique and offers a one-of-a-kind treasure hunt-like experience. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Loud noises and barking tend to startle wildlife and reduce viewing opportunities - please be considerate and leave your dog at home.

Other | Tatzu Nishi: Discovering Columbus: Visit the Famous Statue Up Close and 70 Feet in the Air

This major new artwork has been created by the Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi. The work places the 13-foot-tall statue of Columbus in the center of an American living room six stories above the city streets, recontextualizing the historical monument and temporarily transforming it into a contemporary artwork. The room will feature many of the trappings of a domestic living room—lamps, a couch, a coffee table, a television, and more—as well as custom wallpaper by the artist. Through large, loft-style windows, visitors will have dramatic views of Central Park and Midtown Manhattan that will be seen from Columbus’s perspective for the first time. Pass holders are asked to climb six flights of stairs to a height of 70 feet above street level and to descend by a second set of stairs. Flat, rubber-soled shoes are strongly recommended. This exhibition is ADA accessible. If a visitor requires the use of a mobility device (e.g. wheelchair, crutches, or a cane) or has a condition that prevents him or her from using the stairs, a hoist is available. Visitors under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Those between the ages of 13 and 18 may visit without an adult, however a parent or guardian must obtain a pass for them. Given the physical demands of visiting the exhibition, it is not recommended for children under the age of 5. Strollers are not permitted.

What started out as the rocky and desolate northern fringes of a rapidly expanding city is today amongst the world's most famous and beloved public parks. Originally intended to bring people of all walks of life together -- a people's park -- Central Park lives up to it's original designs. With over 843 acres of meadows, hills, ball fields and bodies of water, it's impossible not to find

City Walk | Lower East Side Food Tour

Where can you find a historic Synagogue next to a storefront Buddhist Temple, trendy boutiques that sit comfortably beside decades-old "Mom and Pop" shops, or tenament apartments interspersed between luxury high rise condos? Look no further than the Lower East Side to discover America's great Melting Pot. Once an insular slum with the one of the world's highest population densities and lowest life expectancies, its streets tell the tales of immigrant struggles and rags to riches stories. Known for a time as Kleindeutschland (Little Germany), this neighboorhood was also the Jewish ward, home today to a mix of foreign-born Latinos and Asians as well as students and hipsters. The result is one of New York City's most dynamic and interesting neighborhoods and a food lover's paradise.

Gallery Talk | Agency: Thing 000789 (Prince Charming)

Agency convenes an assembly in order to bear witness to Thing 000789 (Prince Charming), a legal dispute between 1980s pop singer Adam Ant, his merchandising company, and Harpbond about a poster which reproduced the facial make-up of the musician's "Prince Charming" look. For the assembly, Agency has invited a group of local individuals from concerned professions to respond to the case in question: a lawyer, a painter, a make-up artist, an anthropologist, and an art historian. Since 1992, Agency has been collecting a growing list of things that resist the split between the classifications of nature and culture. These things are mostly derived from judicial processes, suits, cases, affairs, controversies, and so forth, around intellectual property.

Arguably the world's most valuable, busiest and most crowded pieces of real estate, Midtown Manhattan is what most visitors think of when they think of New York City. Home to some of the city's most iconic architecture, from Gothic to Post-Modern and from Beaux-Arts to Art Deco (lots of Art Deco). it's not difficult to understand why. But just behind the massive facades, lie facinating histories just waiting to be unveiled.

Video | Oscar Muñoz’s 2003 Video Re/trato Projected on the Side of a Building

Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz’s 2003 video Re/trato will be projected on a building to the east visible from the park’s Seating Steps, as well as the sidewalk. One of Colombia’s most influential artists, Oscar Muñoz has created an impressive body of work that investigates memory and history, and the ways both intertwine with our contemporary society. Here, Muñoz presents a video in which you see the artist painting a self-portrait on a concrete sidewalk by using a brush and water. The hand continuously paints as the portrait evaporates, creating an endless drawing. Reflecting on the ephemeral nature of identity, the work highlights the liminal space between remembering and forgetting, between an image and its obliteration.

Performance | Pussinomics: A Comedy, a One-Woman Show with Jenice Matias

A truly outrageous and unique collection of comedic character monologues that include original songs and dance, just in time for the election! This multimedia show presents fictional scenarios of politicians exploiting women: prostitution being legalized, the enforcement of ex-gay camps and mandatory registration of genitals at a government agency. Did they neglect to mention prosthetic vaginas are in the mix? Of course these portraits are too extreme to ever become reality...or are they?

Discussion | Rabbi Ron Kronish, Director of the Interreligious Coordinating Council in Israel, and Kadi Iyad Zahalka (a Kadi is a Muslim civil judge) of Shar’i Court in Jerusalem

Rabbi Ron Kronish (Director of the Interreligious Coordinating Council in Israel) and Kadi Iyad Zahalka (a Kadi is a Muslim civil judge) of Shar’i Court in Jerusalem. Together they will discuss The Other Peace Process, a conversation about the roles and relationships between Jews and Muslims in Israel through the prism of Zahalka’s role as a Muslim judge in the Israeli legal system. Kronish, the director of Interreligious Coordinating Council in Israel and Jewish Center for Jewish-Christian Relations, which promotes Interreligious Dialogue and Education in Israel in the service of peace; and Zahalka will share their personal and professional life stories. Zahalka will speak about the new generation of Muslim judges in Israel, and about his field of legal expertise, the Fiqh al Aqalliyyat Doctrine (Muslim Minority Jurisprudence) and its implications for Muslims in Israel. One of only eleven Kadis in the Israeli court system, Zahalka is part of a new generation of Muslim judges; an effective, energetic advocate for his professional work in the Muslim courts of the State of Israel. Zahalka will discuss the “revolution” that has taken place in the Muslim religious courts in Israel. “We will share new thinking about the method of dialogue, as well as the message. We will explain why and how interreligious and intercultural dialogue is essential ingredients for a lasting peace. Politics can only produce the framework for peace. We religious leaders can help people learn to live in peace together.”
