American soprano Karen Vuong is a rising star in the world of opera, her sparkling voice noted for its marvelous articulation and lilting, creamy tone. As the 2011 Santa Barbara Festival Song Competition winner and inaugural member of Los Angeles Opera’s prestigious Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program, Ms. Vuong performs in operas and recitals in Asia, Europe, and throughout the US. She performs today under the auspices of the Marilyn Horne legacy, having been selected and mentored by Ms. Horne herself. The young singer describes opera like this: “Imagine your best, funniest, or worst day, times a hundred, set to beautiful music, and that’s opera.”
Canadian pianist Carrie-Ann Matheson is an assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera and has worked with renowned conductors James Levine, Daniel Barenboim, and James Conlon. A full-time pianist, prompter, and vocal coach for the Met, she is particularly interested in the development of emerging artists, serving as staff coach for the Metropolitan Opera’s prestigious Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Ms. Matheson has collaborated in recital with the world’s most prominent artists, including Marilyn Horne, Diana Damrau, Joyce DiDonato, and Susan Graham
