Harlem's history is also one of the city's most dramatic, having gone through many ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic changes over the past roughly 400 years, which have resulted in a diverse array of places of worship, theaters, homes and eating establishments.

Few, however, think of it as the largest and longest art gallery on the planet. Well, they don't know what they are missing. This lively walking AND subway riding tour visits over a dozen subway stations to experience a selection of these striking often whimsical works that go largely unnoticed by the general public. Join this climate controlled subway and walking art tour. Along the way you'll learn about and become expert at navigating the (in)famous NYC subway system. There's also the invaluable opportunity to confer about your other sightseeing plans with the acclaimed Bronx born, vastly experienced licensed NYC tour guide, Darryl Reilly. Tour takes place every Thursday.

Discussion |
To mark the opening of the exhibition Radical Bodies: Anna Halprin, Simone Forti and Yvonne Rainer in California and New York, 1955–1972, Yvonne Rainer and Lucy Sexton come discuss their careers in dance. In the 1960s, Rainer was a leader in the dance avant-garde through the rule-breaking collaborative, Judson Dance Theater. In the 1980s, DANCENOISE, Lucy Sexton’s performance art duo with Anne Iobst, rocked the New York club scene with transgressive, socially conscious acts of precisely aimed mayhem. With the help of performance clips, archival display, and mutual curiosity, Rainer and Sexton will question each other about how their separate generations transformed the New York dance scene.

Play |
The Public Theater’s Artistic Director Oskar Eustis directs this play, last seen in the Park 17 years ago. Rome’s leader, Julius Caesar, is a force unlike any the city has seen. Magnetic, populist, irreverent, he seems bent on absolute power. A small band of patriots, devoted to the country’s democratic traditions, must decide how to oppose him. Shakespeare’s political masterpiece has never felt more contemporary.Runs May 23-28, May 30-June 3, June 6-13 and June 15-18.
