City Walk | Six Faces in Tribeca Walk

The walk is a 2.75-mile jaunt along Greenwich Street from Tribeca to the Meatpacking District. Along the way, visit six small facade projects. As a group, these facades represent some of the more unusual and daring small scale interventions into the historic fabric of the city. The buildings are a mix of new construction and renovated structures dating from just after the Civil War to the present day. The full range of architectural materials from sand molded bricks to a massive slab of cor-ten steel is on display. The purpose of the walk is to illustrate that a variety of voices contributes to the conversation that we call a city. Each building faces the same choices about how to approach their neighbors. Some choose to slip in almost unnoticed while others announce their arrival with gusto. Whether whispering or shouting, these six citizens deserve to be heard.

Tour | Greenwich Village Neighborhood Tour

Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

Tour | Hudson Square is Now Tour

The buildings in Hudson Square were built in the 1930s for manufacturing. At that time, some 12,000 people worked in the district. Around the same time the Holland Tunnel was built to accommodate 15 million vehicles per year. Today, Hudson Square is a hub of creative industries with a daytime population of 60,000 and the tunnel now moves 35 million. In spite of this more than doubling of cars and tripling of population, streets continue to be treated as a staging area for tunnel traffic. How do we balance the needs of a regional transportation facility with those of a local community? How do we make Hudson Square a place for people, make the streets safer and greener and the neighborhood more resilient?

Explore the Hudson River waterfront, recalling past shipping activities such as the ocean liner trade, import/export cargo handling, and railroad-owned fleets of barges, car floats, tugs and ferries. With the leader's experience working on Pier 40 beginning in the 1960s, hear about the revolutionary changes that hit the passenger and cargo shipping industries and the swift decline of the waterfront for maritime uses and the painfully slow transformation to what recreation uses we see today. Historic remnants of the ocean liner trade will be revealed; see where the Titanic should have docked and where the Carpathia brought back the survivors, where immigrants arrived and from where passengers sailed to all parts of the world or commuted daily across the river on fleets of railroad ferries.

Performance | OnebyOne, 'a Live Cartographic Performance'

A live cartographic performance that maps the pathways of the self through a symbiotic relationship. Unfurling the meaning of support, the performers acknowledge the embodied histories that lay dormant - uplifting imprinted archetypes in the psyche, bones, cells - and update past codes of behavior into the present, seeking to understand the nature of growth by accumulating and then shedding layers of experience, like a tree peels away bark or a snake sheds skin. Created and performed by Eva Perrotta and Corinne Cappelletti. Music Composer: Reba Hasko.

Discussion | Tuberculosis: Global Health and Grass Roots Action

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that is usually associated with those that live on the margins of society: the impoverished, the elderly, the homeless. More recently, cases have been associated with immigration and human right movements, highlighting the ways in which TB silently moves across artificial boundaries of class, gender, ability, and geography. With co-morbidity occurring in those that live with HIV/AIDS and food scarcity, the situation warrants immediate action. Please join a distinguished panel of health providers, researchers, and health advocates to discuss the premiere of "TB The Silent Killer" and discuss how grass roots advocacy can shift the tide to more appropriate wellness, treatment, and prevention programs.
