Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

Park Walk |
Moderate walking, a few stairs, about five or six hours. Look at all of the statues in Battery Park, especially the John Ericsson statue. This statue was moved a few years ago. John is looking at Bridge Street instead of the park and the harbor. The Shorewalkers Art Committee will decide whether or not we should suggest that the New York City Art and Antiquities Department turn the statue to face into the park and the harbor. Visit the Alexander Hamilton Custom House and the beautiful Native American Indian art inside. .Bring lunch and water. Rain or shine. Call Friday evening until 9:00 PM, if weather is a question.

Staged Reading |
The Instant Shakespeare Company readings are set up to make Shakespeare accessible. The readings are usually without rehearsal, but they are on-your-feet Instant staged readings where the readers/actors move around as much as they feel comfortable. Readers are encouraged to share with their fellow readers and the audience so that the plays can exist as words and thoughts communicated through space, not just words on the page.Although most of the participants in the Instant Shakespeare readings are actors, all who wish to participate are invited to do so. Generally each reading has a Play Master responsible for casting and those who wish to participate can contact the PM. Sometimes there are still roles open at the reading and audience members can participate.

Known as America's first suburb, Brooklyn Heights is truly a gem. Travel and Leisure named it one of America's top 10 most beautiful neighborhoods, and its beauty is rivaled only by its place in American history. These quaint, tree-lined streets have been the sites of Revolutionary War battles, abolitionist activism and have inspired numerous novelists. Gallery Talk |
This exhibition brings together recent and newly-commissioned work by seven artists whose work deliberately finësses the relationship between the artist and the structures she occupies—whether material, social, or political. This tactic rests on the premise that those attuned to the conditions that reproduce a system, in all their limits and contingencies, are best positioned to transform them from within.

Colloquium |
This is the second of three colloquia that ground theIndigenous New York series this year. The series is a public program and research initiative developed in collaboration with artist Alan Michelson and in consultation with artist Jackson Polys. It facilitates collaborations and exchanges among contemporary curators, artists, critics and scholars through public events and colloquia that focus on indigeneity and the legacy of colonialism and position the local as evidence of concerns shared globally. The first of this series, Indigenous New York, Curatorially Speaking examined four key inquiries: indigenous and non-indigenous epistemologies and methodologies; the non-colonial museum; challenges of collaborative curation; and the growing indigenization of international art. Building on the success of the first colloquium, the second Indigenous New York, Critically Speaking, will provide opportunities for meaningful exchange between indigenous and non-indigenous critics and the public and examine how a fuller consideration of indigenous creative production might reconfigure regimes of critical writing.

Discussion |
The reclamation of spaces, ideas, and paradigms by female-identified and informed bodies and queer bodies embodying feminist ethos must be made paramount at this moment in American Life. Half Straddle’s Here I Go, pt. 2 of You is an open work period and colloquy that encompasses rehearsals and showings of new theater and video work; the launch of an online journal of performance writing; public lectures; and communal zine-making activities that will act as accessible discussion periods. Here I Go, pt. 2 of You engages company members, peers, and their artistic heroes to expand critical artistic discourse to interrogate and reflect on how we codify; and to consider why various performances are made and ask what their making means at this time. The installation includes art work by John Davis and Heidi Hahn, and is designed by Parker Lutz and Tina Satter. Series runs March 8-March 18.Speaker Schedule: Saturday, March 115pm Lumi Tan
