Few, however, think of it as the largest and longest art gallery on the planet. Well, they don't know what they are missing. This lively walking AND subway riding tour visits over a dozen subway stations to experience a selection of these striking often whimsical works that go largely unnoticed by the general public. Join this climate controlled subway and walking art tour. Along the way you'll learn about and become expert at navigating the (in)famous NYC subway system. There's also the invaluable opportunity to confer about your other sightseeing plans with the acclaimed Bronx born, vastly experienced licensed NYC tour guide, Darryl Reilly. 2015: a year when the Supreme Court's landmark ruling on marriage equality coincided with a record number of trans women being murdered. Reckoning: Furies from a New Queer Nation examines the most pressing issues affecting Queer America today: gay white male privilege, homelessness, and racism. It follows the parallel lives of characters sharing one city and one community—yet experiencing opposing realities. Because when a Supreme Court ruling like marriage equality passes, we must ask: what did we accomplish and who did we leave behind? Written by Geraldine Inoa.

Lissa Rivera (photographer and curator) and BJ Lillis (historian and museum professional) will discuss their project ‘Beautiful Boy.’ Rivera’s photographs of BJ, her romantic partner and muse, reference historical examples of gender construction in art. The techniques, fantasies and narratives of femininity are at once dissected and indulged. Their work is obsessive, decadent and unabashedly pleasurable. Rivera and Lillis will discuss the role of the artist in transcending identity categories and breaking down double standards, the boundaries between public and private expression, embracing fluid identities and recognizing that truth and fantasy do not have to be opposites.

Experience great Malian kora works transcribed and performed by a deeply sensitive and virtuosic classical guitarist.South African guitarist Derek Gripper released his ninth album, One Night on Earth: Music from the Strings of Mali, late in 2012. Recorded at an all-night session, the album magically conjures anew a centuries-old ancient African musical heritage, interpreting kora compositions (21 string harp) on solo guitar, a feat which classical guitar legend John Williams said he thought was “absolutely impossible until I heard Derek Gripper do it.”
