Concert | New Voices of Pop: Unknown Mortal Orchestra / Empress Of / Klaus Johann Grobe

The threads of our past never unravel, they hover like invisible webs, occasionally glistening due to a sly angle of the sun. On Multi-Love, Unknown Mortal Orchestra frontman and multi-instrumentalist Ruban Nielson reflects on relationships: airy, humid longing, loss, the geometry of desire that occurs when three people align. Where Nielson addressed the pain of being alone on II, Multi-Love takes on the complications of being together. While in college Lorely Rodriguez, aka Empress Of, began sketching out a new song idea everyday, making a scrappy home-recording, and posting 1-minute YouTube videos she called “colorminutes” — little snippets of her gorgeous, ethereal pop songs set to different color screens. The mysteriousness intrigued certain corners of the underground music world and on blogs. Klaus Johann Grobe have a new record out which is called Spagat der Liebe. They will also tour through the United States and Germany this spring. They will play new songs, bring too many keyboards and gute Laune.

Play | Hudson Warehouse presents Shakespeare's Othello

Shakespeare's tragedy, believed to have been written in 1603. It is based on the story "A Moorish Captain" by Cinthio, first published in 1565. This tightly constructed work revolves around four central characters: Othello, a Moorish general in the Venetian army; his beloved wife, Desdemona; his loyal lieutenant, Cassio; and his trusted but ultimately unfaithful ensign, Iago. Given its varied and enduring themes of racism, love, jealousy, betrayal, revenge and repentance, Othello is still often performed in professional and community theatre alike, and has been the source for numerous operatic, film, and literary adaptations. Concert | Hip-Hop: Digable Planets / Camp Lo

Along with A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets did more to connect hip-hop with jazz — and put forward a positive, cerebral form of the genre — than any other group. Their 1990s masterpieces Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space) and Blowout Comb — a love letter to Fort Greene which Pitchfork said “made a proto-crate-digging approach feel completely organic, and integrated with their broader goal of deepening rap’s connection to music history” — remain two of rap’s greatest and most original records. The classic Bronx duo Camp Lo have the opening honors. Comprised of Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede, the group formed in 1995 and have produced a steady stream of critically acclaimed (if publicly underappreciated) music ever since, collaborating along the way with the likes of De La Soul, Aesop Rock, Will Smith, and Pete Rock along the way. Their most recent record is last year’s Ragtime Hightimes.

Theater | Shakespeare in the Park: Troilus and Cressida

Tony-winning director Daniel Sullivan returns with one of the Bard’s most rarely produced plays, Troilus and Cressida. Both warriors and lovers play hard to get in this surprisingly modern epic about the hot blood, hot thoughts and hot deeds of the ancient Greeks. In the 7th year of the Trojan War, Troilus, a young prince, pines for the affections of Cressida, a bright young woman who knows how to play it cool. Meanwhile, the heroes of the Iliad – Ajax, Ulysses, Achilles and the kings they serve - debate whether to return the dangerously beautiful captive Helen or continue to fight without end. Nations and lovers alike do battle in this funny, piercing drama about romance and revenge in a world at war.

Party | Party with DJ Huggy Bear

"Hi, I'm Dj Huggy Bear. I accept hugs, not requests. I play all the crowd's favorites from old to new. Got my start as a DJ six years ago and haven't looked back since." That pretty much sums it up. We put Huggy on over a half-decade ago and from day one he's been lighting up the room up with warm vibes and killer jams. Just look at that smile ... the man is an institution. All of your Saturdays this month are now planned.
