Opening Reception | Group Show: Women Under Siege: It's Happening Right Here

An exhibition curated by artist Susan Grabel addressing the sexism and misogyny contained in laws across the country being used against women. Women are under siege from misguided legislatures and law enforcement agencies in many parts of the country. Under the guise of protecting the fetus, women are being persecuted, forced to undergo unwanted and unwarranted medical procedures, confined against their will to hospitals, imprisoned for having miscarriages as well as for using substances while pregnant even if, like methadone, they are prescribed by a doctor. Grabel chose the stories of 25 women whose circumstances illustrate these issues. She invited artists to acquaint themselves with a particular woman's story and to create an artwork in response to it.

Soaring Crane practice can lead to a marked improvement in physical health, lower blood pressure, increased flexibility, improved balance, sounder sleep, less pain, fewer headaches, increased energy, and reduction of physical and mental stress.

Concert | Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber, a 'Mulitracial Jam Army'

Celebrate 18 years of genre-exploding musical exploits by this “multiracial jam army that freestyles with cool telekinesis between the lustrous menace of Miles Davis’s On The Corner, the slash-and-om of 1970s King Crimson, and Jimi Hendrix’s moonwalk across side three of Electric Ladyland” (Rolling Stone). Founded by Village Voice icon Greg "Ironman" Tate and co-led with monster groove bassist Jared Michael Nickerson since 1999, New York City’s Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber is a “fleet-footed big band” (Rolling Stone) whose prodigious personnel and adherence to Butch Morris's "Conduction" system of music creation allows them to freely juggle a wide swath of the soul, jazz, hip-hop, rock, and avant-garde spectrums. With alumni including Melvin Van Peebles, Matana Roberts, Vijay Iyer, and Julia Kent, the current crew revolves around Shelley Nicole, Mikel Banks, Lisala, Ben Tyree, Julie Brown, Asim Barnes, LaFrae Sci, Lewis "Flip” Barnes, V. Jeffery Smith, Avram Fefer, "Moist" Paula Henderson, Leon Gruenbaum, JS Williams, and Andre Lassalle.

Concert | The NOW Sound of Budapest

“Hungarians have been reframing their many traditions for generations which makes Budapest’s music so full of life” — Aron Romhanyi, Artistic Director (Music Export Budapest). Get off to a good start in the New Year. The NOW Sound of Budapest, timed to coincide with APAP, the largest annual gathering of performing arts professionals in NYC, offers a fresh and modern take on Hungarian and East Central European traditional music brought to you by three ensembles that know as much about tradition as they love experimentation. The ethnic, Bulgarian-Hungarian psychedelia of Meszecsinka (“Little Moon”), the tango-inflected improvisations of Armenian-born Hungarian musician David Yengibarian and the rigorous folk-jazz beauties of Mihály Borbély’s Polygon trio all offer, each in their distinct ways, a musical homage to the tapestry that is Central Europe.
