Author Reading | Terry Alford reads from his book Fortune’s Fool: The Life of John Wilkes Booth

With a single shot from a pistol small enough to conceal in his hand, John Wilkes Booth catapulted into history on the night of April 14, 1865. City Walk | Brooklyn Bridge Ghost Tour

An icon of New York City and one of the world's most famous man-made structures, the bridge is must-see attraction on most visitors’ Big Apple itineraries. A walk along its pedestrian promenade, with its wonderful views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and Brooklyn—not to mention the bridge's Gothic arched towers—is priceless. It truly lives up to its nickname as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Yet behind all its physical beauty and charm lie darker truths. The bridge has been bad luck for some and a curse for others. Mysterious illness to a stampede to faulty construction and outright murder have claimed the lives of dozens, including the bridge's designers.
