One of the oldest free weekly events in Manhattan is Dixieland Jazz with the Gotham Jazzmen, which happen at noon every Tuesday. Another example of an event that you can attend all year round on weekdays is Federal Reserve Bank Tour, which takes place every week day at 1 pm (but advanced reservations are required). You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. If you are classical music afficionado, you can spend whole day in New York going from one free classical concert to another. If you love theater, then New York gives you an option to attend plays and musicals free of charge, or at deep discount. You just need to have information about it. City Walk | Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo Tour


This is a 3-hour tour that begins with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, an icon of New York City for over 125 years, with spectacular views of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The tour then moves on to a stroll of Brooklyn Heights, America’s and New York City’s first suburb. The tour then explores the neighborhood DUMBO before ending at the Fulton Ferry landing. Master Class | Dances with Wolves: Indigenous Contemporary Dance Master Class


A week-long series of contemporary indigenous-focused dance master classes comes to #MANAhatta and celebrates Lenapehoking as a site of cultural activation. The masterclasses are led by Jack Gray (A/P/A Institute at NYU Artist-in-Residence) and guest professional artists from Alaska (Emily Johnson), Philippines (Sammay Dizon), and Aotearoa (Louise Potiki Bryant, Jasmin Canuel, and Bianca Hyslop). The guest artists will showcase the very latest advancements and developments in contemporary indigenous dance, and share a range of diverse practices and innovations during each two-hour session. Other | Nature Sanctuary Open Hours


During these limited hours, visitors can explore the normally closed sanctuary at their own pace along the rustic trail. See how the conservancy has restored this native woodland garden for birds and other wildlife. The wood-chipped trail is uneven; please wear appropriate shoes. This ecosystem is a protected area and home to many flora and fauna. No groups, dogs, bikes, or strollers. Free and self-guided. Space is limited.

Screening | Inside Lens: Documentary Films from China


A public screening and discussion of two films by young directors from China. “Fairy Tales,” directed and produced by Rongfei Guo, is a short about “Fairy” Wang, a working-class woman from rural China who hopes to become a famous fashion designer. After posting her eccentric designs to the Chinese social media platform Weibo, she becomes an overnight Internet celebrity. But her fame comes at a price. “Rootless,” directed and produced by Alice Xue Yu, is the true story of an Inner Mongolian mother who lives a double life for her young son. Caught between tradition and modernity, she leaves her grassland home for better schools in the city. The public screenings for these two documentary shorts will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers, Guo and Yu; classmates Xin Liu and Yijin He, Marcia Rock, director of the News and Documentary program; and David M. Barreda, visuals editor for ChinaFile.

Marcus Machado has been performing professionally since the age of nine.
