Each year the German Translation Fund organizes several workshops around the world focused on translating from German into one particular language and vice versa. This year for the first time, one of these ViceVersa week-long workshops is taking place in the United States with five German-to-English translators and five English-to-German translators, led by Shelley Frisch and Karen Nölle.
In conjunction with this workshop, Frisch and Nölle will host a panel on current directions in literary translation, and workshop participants will present from new translations in progress. The evening will provide a window into what it means to spend most-- or all-- of one's waking hours contemplating texts in one language and recreating them in new linguistic garb.
